Using digital personalisation to good effect

Much of what we do is designed to generate sales leads for our clients. This mailing for Helphire uses digital personalisation to create an actual sized personalised number plate for each recipient. The campaign goes live next week with the telemarketing follow-up to start the week after.

Brian Child joins the board

Brian, former Chief Executive of McCann Erickson Manchester, has joined us as non-executive director. He'll help steer the agency through the next stage of its growth.

Brian grew McCann's to become the largest agency outside London. In 1999 he became Vice President of McCann Europe and established Momentum – a network of event and sales promotion companies. The Marketeer Association

I invited Adrian Banger from the Paradigm Partnership along to meet with other agencies who are part of the Marketeer Association. Adrian acts as a coach, a mentor and a trainer. What he does is help businesses to develop and grow.

When I established the agency in 2001, we spent the first three years working in the agency and not on it. Adrian helped focus me on developing the agency and has made an important contribution both to the growth of the agency and to my personal development over the last couple of years.

Adrian’s approach is to get people like us to invest in ourselves. A central part of this is to identify what our key personal characteristics are; which of those are helping to move the business forward and which are holding it back.

Why we love direct marketing

Peter Gabriel's new venture, WE7, is a great example of how targeted advertising enables us all to download music for free and guilt-free. Before the track plays a 10 second ad runs. Advertisers buy spots according to the audience they want to target.

It's a win-win-win: consumers get free songs without pangs of guilt for stealing from artists, artists are paid for their music, and advertisers get the opportunity to "Intimately whisper into the ears of their targeted audience like never before", as We7 puts it. Fantastic!

Digital to take centre stage

In the wake of the appointment of digital specialist agency, Albion to the ebay account, there's been a lot of comment about the rapid shift of client budgets from traditional advertising towards online specialists.

I totally agree with the comment from Bob Willott, editor of Marketing Services Financial Intelligence who said: "In future, advertising will be driven by agencies that are capable of digitally locating and monitoring audiences rather than those that can create beautiful campaigns aimed at anyone prepared to watch and listen, he believes. "On a ten year view, digital agencies will be at the centre of the work and this will feed out into other types of skill sets. Digital will be in the driving seat."

Uttoxeter loves us....

A nice little write up on our celebratory night out at Cinebowl appears in today's Uttoxeter Post & Times. When it came to getting our picture in the paper we (members of the agency) elbowed our clients out of the way to make sure we were in the front row. So thanks Nigel, Jason, Keith and Richard (from JCB & Swift) for being such good sports (even though we gave you a good thrashing on the night!)
